Fish Passage Restored at Bridge Creek!
In partnership with Caltrout, the North Coast Railroad Authority, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, California Coastal Conservancy, National Marine Fisheries Service, the RIce Family, Humboldt Redwood Company, and Ryan Rice Construction, PWA oversaw the removal of a historic earthen railroad crossing at the mouth of Bridge Creek, a tributary to the mainstem Eel River in Holmes, California. For the first time in more than 100 years, anadromous salmonids will have access to spawning and rearing habitat in Bridge Creek, as well as refuge from high winter flows on the mainstem Eel River. For more information about this unique and challenging salmonid habitat restoration project, check out the Bridge Creek article in the Oct/Nov 2014 issue of EcoNews.
